Foscam Plugin Safari 13

Posted on  by

Even if the web browser plugins were installed successfully when accessing a Foscam security camera, the user may experience the error message “Please re-login after plugin is installed”. The reason for this is that the browser is still blocking the plugin from being executed while attempting to access the camera. It can happen on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari.

This error can also be caused by many reasons including a Pop Up Blocker deliberately blocking the browser from launching the appropriate plug-in. Make sure to disable any Pop Up blockers while accessing the Foscam security cameras. Below we’ve listed a few tips on how to resolve this plugin issue.

Foscam Plugins Chrome

Chrome (Windows OS)

  1. Foscam has published a new, different kind of plugin that works with Safari 12 and macOS Mojave. Newer firmwares for newer cameras link to this plugin (my FI9900EP does, for example) when trying to access their web UI from Safari. Their SSL certificate is broken but other than that the plugin installs and works just fine.
  2. UPDATE for Safari 12 and macOS Mojave. Foscam has published a new, different kind of plugin that works with Safari 12 and macOS Mojave. Newer firmwares for newer cameras link to this plugin (my FI9900EP does, for example) when trying to access their web UI from Safari. Launch the browser and in the address bar type the address chrome://components. On the list, locate pnacl; if the version number indicated is 0.0.0.0 the component has not been updated. Click on Check for Update to update the pnacl component and restart the browser after the update is complete.
Also, keep in mind that some anti-virus programs will block most of the browser’s plugins from being executed. If the problem continues after the pnacl plugin is updated, temporarily disable the ant-virus program and try to login to the camera.

Firefox (Windows)

Launch Firefox and in the address bar type about:addons and press enter. Click Plugins and locate the nplIPCRegDLL and choose the option Always Active. Close Firefox and re-launch the browser. Attempt to login to the camera again.
Note: The latest Firefox releases (version 52 and newer) have blocked certain types of plugins such as the one from Foscam to be executed. In this case, use Internet Explorer instead.

Internet Explorer (Windows)

Launch Internet Explorer and navigate to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Customer Level > ActiveX Controls and Plugins.

  • Enable Download unsigned ActiveX controls
  • Enable Initialize and script ActiveX controls
  • Enable Run ActiveX controls and plugins

Close and relaunch Internet Explorer and attempt to login to the camera.
Also, if you’ve turned on the ActiveX Filtering option, click turn it off so the plugin can run.

Safari (MacOS)

Open Safari and navigate to Security Settings > Internet Plug-Ins options. Enable Allow Plug-Ins. Close Safari completely and re-launch the browser and attempt to login to the camera.
If the issue is still not solved, try to update the Foscam camera to the latest firmware.
