When Was Undertale Made

Posted on  by

The game was inspired by the Mother and Mario & Luigi role-playing series, the 'bullet hell' shooter series Touhou Project, and the British comedy show Mr. Undertale was originally meant to be two hours long and released in mid-2014, but creating the game took over three years, making the campaign longer and not making the game available until much later. Undertale creator Toby Fox celebrated the RPG’s fifth anniversary by throwing a concert with a full orchestra, which played iconic tracks from the game. Fans also got together to talk about why. Premise[edit]

Players control the child who has fallen into the Underground, a large, secluded region under the surface of the Earth, separated by a magic barrier. The player meets various monsters during a quest to return to the surface, mainly through the combat system; the player navigates through mini-bullet hell attacks by the opponent and can opt to pacify or subdue monsters in order to spare them instead of killing them. These choices affect the game, with the dialogue, characters, and story changing based on outcomes.

Undertale and furry[edit]

Undertale won the award for 'Best Anthropomorphic Game' in the 2015 Ursa Major Awards.[1]

So Sorry[edit]

Furry artist Samael backed the game via Kickstarter before its release, earning a character based on his fursona to be included in the game with a $1,000 donation. This character manifested as a hidden miniboss the player can encounter called So Sorry. Toby Fox, with Samael's permission, did tweak the character slightly to avoid association with Samael's own work, some of which is adult in nature.[2]

Other anthropomorphic characters[edit]

  • Doggo, Lesser Dog, Greater Dog, Temmie, Dogamy, Doggeressa - anthropomorphic dogs
  • Ice Wolf - anthropomorphic wolf
  • Snowdin shopkeeper, Nicecream Guy - Technicolor Anthropomorphic rabbits
  • Asriel, Asgore and Toriel - Monsters that appear to have features of lions, goats, and rabbits
  • Alphys - reptile
  • Undyne - fish
  • Muffet - spider

Side Notes:

This is one of the first things I have made in javascript so dont expect much :)

The current text rendering method is temporary and will be changed to get a hard edge pixel font.

I may not complete this game so this so far is just a test. However I may continue it just for fun if I have time :)

Sorry about the audio for some people, the current method relies on the system caching the sounds and for some it just constantly loads the files causing audio lag. I will recode soon.
